Hello,
I'm new to KTM and looking to buy Duke 390 this year. My dealer offers me both 2018 and 2019 for this season. Price difference is about 400$. He told me that there is practically no difference.

Can anybody confirm this?

Are there any changes in new model?

I don't expect visible design changes, but there could be some bugs squashed or under the hood improvements. If there are software changes like rumored sat navigation, it would probably justify the price difference. Is it confirmed?

Thank you very much!
carlos

p.s. admins pls move this to proper area, I'm not allowed to start topic in General discussion area. Thx!

Not seen any information in any of the periodicals I read about upgrades or improvements to 2018 Duke 390 for 2019 .

I'd ask the dealer if the TFT is exactly the same. If it's updated I'd go with the newest ones as the 2017-2018 units have moisture issues.

Thanks for info. The problem is that we are small country and the dealer doesn't look like best informed person in KTM.. I was not convinced he know that 100% sure. So that is why I'm turning to you fellow riders :) because you may have better information.

It's not just your country. When I went to look at the Dukes I knew more about the bike than the guy at the dealer. When I bought it and picked it up I was asking some questions about the KTM Myride and was told I would have to look at it online, he didn't really know about it. Sad for a salesman I think.

Second source confirmed that there are no changes in 2019 Duke 390 and that KTM will adhere to its 3 year cycle.

Even if the bike is 100% the same it might make a difference if you want to sell your bike in a couple of years.
Then you will sell a "newer" 2019 model and not the older 2018 model.
I don't know how much difference that will make for a resale but I am pretty sure it will make a difference.

I fully agree with Ede.

Resale is going to be better. In fact, probably the cost of the $400 difference for sure.

Buy a '19 right now and its still current year for nearly a whole year. Trade it in spring of 2020 and its only 1 year old, and there may still be 2019 bikes new on the showroom floor.

Plus warranty may last longer too.

Oh, and also, there may be differences/improvements that are not talked about. I know that there is one difference between the '17 and '18 RC390 bikes. The '17 bikes need to have tweaking done to Torque to get engine RPM out of the app. The '18 does not. There are suspected other improvements as well.
